Description: Abel Pliers And Abel Blade Knife Combination With Sheath This combination includes the precision-machined, lightweight aluminum Abel Pliers with tool steel cutting blades, the AbelBlade Knife, Sheath and Lanyard.
The AbelBlade Knife
Our files are filled with stories from anglers (both fly and conventional) who used a knife to get out of trouble: from the guy who stabbed a rogue bear in Canada to the fellow who tripped in a steelhead river and used his blade to cut himself free from loose flyline that had wrapped his feet.
The AbelBlade knife is constructed of the
finest components and materials including Made in the USA high carbon, high chrome, 154CM knife grade stainless steel. It has been hardened to 60RC; the handle or frame of the knife is cold finished 6061-T6 aircraft quality aluminum. For heat treating, we use the world famous Paul Bos System.
While the blades of some knives can collapse, the “liner-lock,” (the blade-locking mechanism) – of fine heat treated spring steel – can’t close until you deliberately move it to the side with your thumb, thus allowing the blade to fold back. It is engineered for quick, single-handed use . . . vital when you need to hang onto a rod while cutting a snagged anchor rope, cut away brush while float-tubing or cut through a streamside tangle. It’s a must while camping, or on a float trip.
The heavy-duty (removable) spring steel pocket clip has been designed to fit on the outside of your shirt, pants, wading shorts or wader pocket with the knife securely inside.
This is essentially a custom knife that is available with or without a serrated blade. These knives are produced in limited numbers in our shop
Abel Pliers
Abel precision-machines two sizes of these remarkable lightweight aluminum pliers with tool steel cutting blades.
Abel Model #4 Pliers at 6.5 inches and just 4.1 ounces are for fresh and saltwater fly-fishing. They’ll remove a hook, cut 250-pound braided wire or any size monofilament line made. These pliers are a necessity when rigging saltwater leaders and are designed for this task.
Abel Model #2 Pliers at just 5.5 inches in length and 2.9 ounces are designed for all freshwater, light saltwater, bass angling, and fly-fishing use, capable of bending down the barb on a dry fly or cutting 175-pound braided wire.
In our original notarized tests, they made 1,000+ cuts of 80-pound test Monel wire and 100 cuts of 250-pound Nylon-coated braided wire. After that, they still cut 7X mono.
Need another reason to buy these? The #4 pliers now have a bottle opener machined into the handle.
Secure your pliers to your belt or wading shorts with an optional hand-tooled Latigo leather carrying sheath; and be sure to see our pliers/knife combo.
Abel Pliers come with a curled safety lanyard that may be secured to your belt or its own Latigo leather sheath. The curled lanyard will stretch approximately three feet.
Unless you’re fishing almost every day, it is unlikely our tool steel jaws will ever wear out. If it becomes necessary, we will replace them and correctly align the pliers’ jaws at the factory for $20 plus shipping.
