The Truth About Drag
There are manufacturers of highly advertised reels who continue to use Delrin and other plastics for their drags despite the obvious inferiority. Those can't be compressed, so the drag plate deflects (bends). Pure cork compresses up to 50%. You've seen a Champagne cork when it comes out of the bottle and still pops back to its original form. Pure cork has that compression that is inherent in its own material. We use a superior high-grade cork and put a little pure neat's-foot oil on it. Our drags do not wear. And we have 16-year old reels to prove it.
