Description:
Pale Morning Dun, Comparadun
One of the best pattern choices as the comparadun imitates the insect struggling to free itself of its nympal shuck. The pattern rides low in the water and is also very durable.
They can be found throughout the west on all river types and in a wide variety of river habitats. Because their hatch spans many months, trout are very selective when feeding on the Pale Morning Duns (PMD). Study rise forms and fish at varying levels (on the bottom with a PMD nymph imitation, in the substrate, just below the surface as an emerging dun, and on the surface as both a comparadun and a spinner) and match the size as closely as possible. On cooler days when the PMD experiences a very high rate of crippled and still born insects, this provides the opportunity for long drifts and excellent fishing conditions.
