There are many variations on the Matuka pattern. This tie combines a full body with an extended rabbit-strip tail and imitates the swimming action of a baitfish when stripped or a leech with a drag-free-drift.

If you want to target the larger fish - use a streamer pattern.

The Matuka can be fished in lakes or streams with equal effectivness. Using a drag-free-drift the fly rabbit-strip will still create plenty of action in streams. In a similar style drift, try raising your rod tip slightly, pulling the fly from the bottom, then lower the rod tip to allow the pattern to "swim" back down. Another effective method is to cast upstream and strip the fly across the river. Using this method target specific areas and hold on for a ferocious strike.
