Typically thought of as a saltwater baitfish pattern, this pattern in smaller size is very effective in freshwater for bass, trout, pike, walleye and other fish. Not all Deceivers are tied to directly imitate baitfish, they are often tied as attractor patterns. This black version of the Deceiver is excellent for creating a silhouette on cloudy days or in stained waters.

The wings (long feathers) are tied in at the back half of the fly to give the pattern lots of action with subtle strips pulling the fly upwards and allowing it to sink a few inches before the next line strip.-
