Description:
Caddis Pupa, Black Biot
The pupa, or pupating stage, is the final instar before the caddis larva emerges as an adult. It's a tough go shedding that final shuck and preparing to break the surface film to dry their wings. It's also an ideal time for trout to take advanatge of the situation!
Rene Harrop is the only tyer that has provided as much detail between the various stages of an aquatic insect's transformation from an egg to an adult. The Caddis Flies have a "complete" life cycle, meaning they go from an egg to a larva, to a pupa, and finally to an adult. This pupa stage is an important point in the life cycle for the reasons mentioned in the short desicription of this pattern.
