Description:
Blue Wing Olive
The most popular Baetis imitation on rivers across North America. One of the few Mayflies that can be fished year-round on almost any river.
The Blue Winged Olive (BWO) provides some of the most prolific hatch activity across the country. There are many Blue Winged Olive species that emerge as early a January and as late as the season's end when snow may often cover the ground. For this reason several sizes should be maintained. The Blue Wing Olive name is primarily associated with the Baetidae family, where alone there are over fifty noted species. This pattern is somewhat universal and is used to imitate a number of Mayfly insect species belonging to several different taxonomic families.
