Description:
Blue Wing Olive Para Cripple Biot Body
Cold weather and adverse conditions greatly increase the number of still-born and crippled emerging insects. With the BWO being one of the best hatches to fish this is a "must have" in your fly box.
The term "midge" has many connotations when it comes to fly fishing. In reference to this bug it means an insect that is incapable of breaking the water's surface tension to complete its transition to an amagio or adult insect. This usually occurs when ambient and water temperatures are below normal, or other circumstances cause a large number of still-borns and cripples. This situation can be perplexing because insect activity is obvious and the trout are rising, but not taking your fly. Pay particular attention to the rise forms of the trout. If they appear to be sipping and not feeding as usual, this is a good indicator. Try fishing these flies downstream to fish where you see them steadly feeding.
